A new organization is putting $20,000 toward helping local agencies.

L5 Foundation, an organization dedicated to addressing the essential and basic needs of cancer patients, in conjunction with the Bruce Pearl Family Foundation, will donate the money to five East Tennessee-based charities during a 10:30 a.m. ceremony Tuesday at Bridgewater Place, 205 Bridgewater Road.

Former University of Tennessee head basketball coach Bruce Pearl, now at the University of Auburn, will be present to accept a $10,000 donation to an endowed scholarship in his name at Camp Koinonia, an outdoor education program for children who have disabilities.

In addition, the foundation will give $2,500 each to the Cancer Institute at the University of Tennessee Medical Center; East Tennessee Children’s Hospital; Niswonger Children’s Hospital in Greeneville; and the Thompson Cares Fund at Thompson Cancer Survival Center Foundation.

L5 Foundation’s stated mission is to help provide temporary support and a safety net for cancer patients.
