L5 Foundation partners with Cancer Support Community East Tennessee to provide individual support sessions for cancer patients

The L5 Foundation announces a new partnership with the Cancer Support Community East Tennessee to provide individual support sessions for cancer patients in treatment and their families.

“I’m really excited about our partnership with CSC and the opportunity to add to the array of services we offer to cancer patients and their families,” said Dr. Susan Newman, founder of L5 Foundation. “No two cancer patients have the same experience. Some may need more individual support than others. This partnership makes it possible for patients to get the support they need.”

Individual support sessions are offered at no charge to cancer patients and their family members, including children and caregivers. Sessions are led by licensed therapists, either a psychologist or licensed clinical social worker.

Types of individual sessions available include:

  • Orientation, where the licensed therapist learns about the individual’s cancer experience to date and current needs. This is a required session.
  • Group Interview, during which the therapist determines if a support group is a good fit for the individual being interviewed.
  • Follow-Up Session(s), which are offered at any time to discuss the individual’s progress and continued needs.
  • Open to Options, which help foster communication, particularly in identifying concerns or questions to take to the individual’s healthcare team

All sessions take place at the Cancer Support Community East Tennessee, 2230 Sutherland Avenue. To schedule an appointment, please call (865) 546-4661.

The L5 Foundation raises money to meet the every day needs of cancer patients in treatment and their families, including food assistance, transportation assistance, emergency needs assistance, respite care for caregivers, post-treatment pampering and Christmas dinner baskets.
