Eating properly and nutritionally can be difficult for many cancer patients. For many, chemotherapy and radiation treatment alters taste buds, which changes flavor, making even favorite foods lose their appeal. Other patients lack access to healthy food items, or maybe faced with difficult choices like putting food on the table or paying a bill.
L5 Foundation has created a program called Meaningful Meals to provide delicious, nutritious meals designed especially for the needs of cancer patients and their families. Single-serve meals are delivered daily or weekly, depending on each patient’s preference, by volunteers from the Knoxville Mobile Meals program. In addition to healthy food, patients get the added security of having someone check in on them regularly.
Eligibility for the Meaningful Meals Program is determined by each treatment facility’s social workers or financial counselors.
